What BPC-157 is
BPC-157 — pentadecapeptide BPC 157 — is a synthetic 15-amino-acid sequence (GEPPPGKPADDAGLV) derived from a larger gastric juice protein identified by the Sikiric research group at the University of Zagreb in the early 1990s. The full parent protein was named "Body Protection Compound" (BPC); the 15-residue stretch they synthesised and tested became BPC-157.

What the research documents
Tendon and ligament healing. Chang et al. 2011 (J Appl Physiol) documented accelerated Achilles tendon healing in transected rats — denser collagen organisation by day 14, increased tendon outgrowth, faster cell migration into the injury site.
Gastric protection. The original 1991 finding — protection against ethanol-induced and stress-induced gastric ulcers in rats. Reproduced across multiple labs.
CNS effects. Sikiric 2022 (Neural Regen Res) consolidated the rodent CNS literature — effects on dopaminergic, serotonergic, GABAergic systems. Mechanism appears to be vagal/gut-brain, not BBB crossing.
