What GHK-Cu actually is
GHK-Cu is a copper-binding tripeptide: glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine (GHK) complexed with copper(II). It was first isolated by Dr Loren Pickart in 1973 from human plasma, where it was identified as a hepatocyte-regulating activity that declined with age. Plasma GHK levels at age 20 average around 200 ng/mL; by age 60, they're closer to 80 ng/mL — a steady decline correlating with the loss of regenerative capacity in skin and connective tissue.
The synthetic copper complex reproduces the activity of endogenous GHK-Cu and has been the subject of continuous research for over fifty years.
The 4,000-gene story — what it actually means
This is unusual. Most peptides affect a single receptor and a handful of downstream genes. GHK-Cu modulates broad transcriptional programs — closer to a hormone than a typical signalling peptide.

Four decades of dermal research. Pickart Connectivity Map work documented modulation of ~4,000 genes associated with extracellular matrix remodeling.
Different mechanisms. GHK-Cu modulates gene expression broadly. Matrixyl stimulates collagen synthesis directly. Argireline acts on SNAP-25 to reduce muscle contraction.
