What to look for in a peptide supplier

The useful question is not whether a supplier claims to be good. It is what you could check if you decided to.

Things you can actually check

  • A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis, available before purchase rather than after
  • An analytical method stated alongside every figure, not just the figure
  • Batch numbers agreeing across vial, box and certificate
  • A verification route that checks a code against the manufacturer's records rather than against the packaging
  • Stated storage conditions and expiry, with the assumption behind them made explicit

Things that sound reassuring and are not

  • A purity percentage with no method attached
  • A generic certificate not tied to a batch number
  • Claims of a manufacturing standard with no documentation behind them
  • Photographs of laboratories
  • Reviews and purchase counts, which are trivially fabricated and say nothing about the vial you will receive

The asymmetry underneath

Most buyers cannot analyse what they received. A vial containing nothing at all may never be identified as such, because a null result is easy to attribute to the experiment. That asymmetry is exactly why documentary controls carry the weight they do — and why a supplier whose claims are all unfalsifiable has told you something, if not what they intended.
